January 16, 2008 update

Well, good news. Apparantly he's just got chapped skin around his mouth. I put lotion on him and it didn't look nearly as bad as last night and there were no other bumps anywhere. So I sent him off to school this morning with lots of lotion and a tube of chapstick. It's turned off so cold and he still has a bit of a drooling problem so I'm thinking that the mix of the two is the culprit.
